Zida, I salute your courage to just keep walking through it, right through the middle of it, right through the edges of it, right through the depths of it. This piece of writing kept giving me an opportunity to sigh and sigh, and sigh with the relief of the truth being told.

Your words are beautiful--support and solace! So glad I wrote something that feels true. (Helped by all the greats I quoted from, of course.)

Hi Zida! Since you mentioned music ...

My therapist worked a lot with EMDR; she was very into bilateral stuff. So for a while, I tried doing my body awareness meditation while listening to bilateral music. I found it interesting and helpful. I used to fall asleep listening to stuff like this ...

(requires comfy headphones that one can sleep in)

Good luck figuring out your path! Keep fighting and learning to trust yourself.

Thanks, Kent. I’m into bilateral sound, too. I did EMDR with a therapist for a while and now use it on my own when the fear comes on strong, usually just for ten minutes or so. I ask myself what the fear is about, and the bilateral seems to make it more likely there’s an answer. Do you use it for longer periods? It doesn't seem to calm me right away, but I think there's an effect a bit later. Intentional breathing seems to be like that too.

It will not surprise you to learn that I was never that rational or sensible about it. I just put the music on when I felt like I needed it and let it go as long as it seemed like a good idea. I would usually fall asleep, or drift in and out of sleep, sometimes all night, sometimes for just an hour and then wake up and it felt bad so I’d stop.

Mmm. Well, it might be good if someone did a study on the effects of listening to bilateral when asleep. Could be the next big thing! So much happens when we're sleeping.
